Tom Bakalakis, B.S.
Tom is a personal trainer and exercise specialist who received his Bachelors degree in Kinesiology (the study of motion of the human body) with a specialization in exercise science from the University of Rhode Island. Throughout his education, Tom studied many different applications of exercise. In addition to his familiarity of exercise in healthy adults, he has also studied exercise in adults with health conditions such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Tom also performed extensive research in physical activity and weight training in children and prepubescent teenagers. He realizes the growing statistics of inactivity and poor diet in today’s children which led to him writing an article on the importance of physical activity in children and teenagers. Tom’s wide knowledge of exercise allows him to know the subtle differences needed to train all people regardless of age, gender or level of fitness.
While in school, Tom completed an internship in physical therapy at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. This allowed him to gain experience in rehabilitation to go along with his background in exercise. Tom spent 4 months in his internship and still goes back to volunteer his time as much as possible. He maintains a strong relationship with many of the therapists and patients at Hasbro and thoroughly enjoys the time he spends there volunteering.
